Batching! Så skapar du flera veckors content på en dag.

Att skapa innehåll till en hemsida och/eller sociala medier kan ofta vara väldigt tidskrävande. Ett av mina bästa produktivitetsknep är att batcha, dvs att samla ihop arbetsuppgifterna och skapa flera inlägg på samma gång.

Så skapar jag en månads content – på 3 dagar

Många företagare kämpar med att få ut innehåll. Creating consistent content can be tough to do when you’re not used to it but once you find your flow, you can create a mountain of it ahead of time so you’re not staying up until the wee hours of the morning trying to prepare something for your community. Even if you’re not creating ANY content right now, you can become a content machine in these simple (and mapped out) steps!

We’ve talked about our blog process and how we’ve used it to grow our email subscribers with ease. Once you have a plan, you’ll be able to churn out content without the dread!

1. Create the Plan – think timeline, think content, think what you want to promote

When you don’t know why you’re creating content, it’s hard to will yourself to do it. If you have a plan and a purpose for doing it, it will come with more ease. The first step in becoming a Content Machine is to create a plan. Think of it like a map. Where do you want to lead your customer to? Answer: most likely an offer you’ve created or a product you have for sale. In order for somebody to want to buy that from you, what questions might they have? What do they need to know before they can trust you and potentially want to purchase from you?

Having an outline of the things you’ll want to address is the essence of an effective editorial calendar. Our editorial calendar includes: a working title, the final title, the link (when the post is live), what vertical the blog post is for and what product or content upgrade you’ll be promoting through it.

Think of your content as the onramp to a freeway and your product is the main freeway corridor. You don’t want to pop your potential customer right on the freeway without the ramp. So create content that helps them understand their need (and that you get them!).

2. Create the Space to Batch

Mindset.

You have to mentally prepare yourself to create a big quantity of content. But once I get in the flow, I’m usually on a roll. So whatever you have to do to have your sights set on getting content creating in your schedule, do that. Set the expectation as though it’s a business meeting with a client.

Block out a chunk of time.

I find that I work best in 4 hour chunks. It takes me about 30 minutes to get “in the zone” and ready to work in earnest. Then, I’ll get three 45-60 minute work bursts in with built-in mini breaks in between to stretch or stand up. At the end, I’ll spend about 15 minutes wrapping the projects up, editing, and sending things to my team.

Four hours is a great chunk of time for me but might not be the best for you or maybe that doesn’t fit into your life. Find what works for you and do your best during that time. Some times, I have to work in one hour chunks and if I decide to make it a productive one, you’ll be surprised how much I’m able to accomplish. As I write this post, I set a 25 minute timer to complete as much as I can on this post!

Prepare the environment.

This can look different for every person, but the purpose is to have everything you need to sit down and do some serious (and fun!) work. Notebooks, pens, notes that you’ve taken, computer batteries, external hard drives, and anything else you need to sit down and get the work done, you’ll want to have available. So many of my environment prep items are drinks and food so I don’t have to get up for a sip of water.

Batch 1: Outline and Prepare

My first batching session is the prep for the content. I’ll open up google docs and title and name them. Then I’ll start outlining the points I’d like to make. In our past editorial content, I’ll look for topics that relate to what I’m writing about and see if there’s anything I can link to or refer to (and make a note of that). There are articles I write that I have to dig deeper and do some research. I’ll make notes for the things I have to research and complete that at a later time. Then I’ll decide what the call to action will be at the end of the post and how I plan to make it a smooth transition from the blog content to the freebie or CTA we’ve got in store for the reader.

Batch 2: Have focused time to create content

In this second block of time, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed because you might feel like there’s SO MUCH to do. But you’ve done most of the thinking and strategy already. You’ve outlined the content, you know where it’s leading to. Your job here is to put words to it and become the teacher to your audience.

You’ll first want to go back to your outlines and see what you need to research. If there’s specific data you’re looking for, a quote you’d like to reference, or a definition, take time to find those before diving into the writing.

I’d recommend that you write one blog at a time, and preferably blog posts with similar themes or topics so your mind can stay in the same “zone” as you’re creating content. But you can think of writing the blog post as elaborating on the outline you’ve created and explain with examples and your knowledge to help the reader understand. That’s it!

Batch 3: Post Production

Now that you’ve done the heavy lifting, here comes the fun part! The Post Production might be different for every person. If you’re editing a podcast or a YouTube video, it might look much different. However, generally, you might want to schedule additional time for editing, creating content upgrades or freebies later on or adding an additional chunk of time to your batch day.

If you need to create graphics or images, you can spend time in post production creating that. That’s something I’ve outsourced because no matter how hard I try, my graphics will never look as good as somebody who has the skills or training.

There you have it. Content creation can have a huge impact on your bottom line and getting good at creating consistency can be found in batching and being a Content Machine.

Därför är det viktigare än någonsin att satsa på din hemsida nu

Under 2017 var sökmotorer återigen den viktigaste trafikkällan för hemsidor efter att ha legat på andra plats efter sociala medier under fem års tid. Det visar en undersökning som Shareaholic gjort.

Det visar att det inte räcker att enbart synas i sociala medier som företagare. Du behöver också arbeta med innehållet på din hemsida för att synas bättre i sökmotorer. Sociala medier kommer att fortsätta vara en viktig kanal att synas och finnas på men bör helst användas som komplement för att driva trafik till din hemsida och kommunicera med dina följare och kunder.

Har du ingen hemsida till företaget idag är detta ännu en anledning att skaffa en. Förlitar du dig enbart på sociala medier som t ex Facebook för ditt företags onlinenärvaro riskerar du att förlora både innehåll och kontakter om de ändrar sina användarvillkor, algoritmer eller av någon anledning stänger ditt konto. I slutändan är det ju faktiskt Facebook som äger plattformen och allt dess innehåll.

Fördelar med att satsa på Google snarare än Facebook

  • Google är mer förutsägbart än Facebook

Trots att Google ändrar sina algoritmer ofta så är de alltid noga med att informera om det i god tid. Värre är det med Facebook som ändrar utan förvarning och får företag att tappa mycket trafik på kort tid.

Google strävar dessutom alltid efter att förse sina användare med innehåll av hög kvalitet. Producerar du relevant innehåll med rätt sökord, titel och fungerande länkar till din hemsida så kan du nästan räkna med att du kommer att synas bland sökresultaten.

  • Hemsidans innehåll lever längre än inlägg i sociala medier

Det du publicerar på Facebook är en färskvara som lätt försvinner i massan av inlägg som dagligen publiceras. På företagets hemsida lagras istället innehållet under en längre tid och kan hittas och användas om och om igen tills dess att det är inaktuellt eller raderas från sidan. Det ger dig möjlighet att täcka flera relevanta sökord och fraser under en längre tid, vilket ökar chansen för att du syns väl på Google.

  • Fler söker information om företag på Google än Facebook

Hela 97% av svenskarna använder Google för att söka information om företag och deras tjänster, enligt vår rapport Svenska företag på webben 2017. Endast 11% använder sina eller andras sociala medier för samma ändamål. Det betyder att chansen för att få fler kunder via webben är större om ditt företag syns väl på Google än om det är aktivt på Facebook.

 

Det här behöver du som företagare göra

1. Skapa en mobilanpassad hemsida till företaget (om du inte redan har en)

Ditt företags hemsida är en enormt viktig del i din digitala marknadsföring. Den är “navet” dit du styr nuvarande och blivande kunder via sociala medier, annonsering, nätverksträffar, med mera för att förse dem med mer information som t ex kontaktuppgifter.

2. Ta fram relevant innehåll till hemsidan

Skapa innehåll till din hemsida som är unikt, intressant och engagerande för din målgrupp. Tänk på att olika personer med olika behov söker efter olika saker på nätet. Vad de har gemensamt är att alla vill hitta relevant information om det de letar efter, snabbt och smidigt. Innehåller hemsidan det som efterfrågas i sökningen ökar chansen för bättre ranking samtidigt som besökaren blir nöjd och mer benägen att tipsa andra om ditt företag.

3. Jobba aktivt med sökmotoroptimering (SEO)

Försök att inkludera sökord och fraser som är relevanta för ditt företag i texten på din hemsida (särskilt sidtiteln, metabeskrivningar och rubriker). Det får den att rankas högre och gör den lättare att hitta i sökresultaten på t ex Google.

Så undviker du content burnout – låna mina bästa knep

Building and running your own business is exciting, fun and fascinating. But sometimes it is just overwhelming. It gets to be too much, because there’s so much advice out there, so much to consume and so many must-have products/services that will “enhance your experience”. It’s so hard to know who to listen to and what advice to take, so today I’m sharing my top tips for avoiding any overwhelm to bring back what building and running your own business is supposed to be about – the passion, whatever that is to you and the value, whatever that is to your audience.

WORK WITH SOMEONE/A MASTERMIND GROUP

Whether you find your business BFF, a small community like a Facebook group or Twitter chat, or you work with a coach/assistant, these people will help you get clarity and stay focused. With so many strategies you supposedly must put in place to be a “successful” entrepreneur, no wonder you often find yourself lost. So turning to a small group of people or as a 1:1 to get another perspective can be a real game changer for avoiding overwhelm. Even if you just jump on a video call or post a comment asking a question for some help, letting others know what you’re working on / want to achieve will encourage you to keep going. It’s so easy to stay in a bubble as an entrepreneur, stressing ourselves out as we consume more and more content, but building relationships with others in our industry will help us to see more clearly and work more effectively towards our goals, whether they’re personal or business related.

USE SAVE IT FOR LATER FEATURES

Two things I love – auditing and categorizing. I’m totally into having a good organization system, and free tools like Pocket, Pinterest’s secret boards, Evernote’s tags and Twitter’s lists make managing content so much easier. If you’re beginning to feel overwhelmed, then embracing Save It For Later features will make the world of difference. Perhaps you’re interested in reading a post, watching a webinar or trying out a recipe/DIY/craft but it’s not quite the right time, so just add it to one of these tools for another time. Or, maybe something stands out to you in a list and you want to make sure you revisit it. Make it a monthly or quarterly task on your list though to go through all of these and delete them all. If you’ve not found time to read it/watch it/try it, chances are you’d probably forgotten all about it and aren’t that bothered after all. This brings us on to…

GET SPECIFIC AND PURPOSEFUL

Whether you’re creating or curating, always have it clear in your mind what you’re looking for. Mindless scrolling through feeds only increases our overwhelm, so focus on a specific topic or idea. If you do come across something interesting, use one of your SIFL features, but don’t click through or you’ll totally lose your train of thought and end up way off topic. Being purposeful at all times will get you miles ahead as an entrepreneur – it will enable you to create awesome content exactly for your ideal audience, it will help you with your self development and it will prevent any sort of creative’s block.

LOOK FOR CONTENT VARIATION

It’s easy to fall in love with a brand and want to connect with them on every platform, but this could be one of the main reasons you feel overwhelmed when you go to scroll through your feeds. So whether you’re about to follow someone, or you’re going through who you’re following, ask yourself this, “is the person posting the same content on every platform, and if so which is my favourite platform to follow them on?”. If they only ever share blog post photos on Instagram, then as nice as they are, perhaps you don’t need to be following them – you already get to see the photos when you read the posts. If they share the same curated content on Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook then you’re seeing that piece of content 2x more than you need to… especially if the headline/copy didn’t make you want to instantly click or save it for later the first time you saw it. Always be looking for that something different with everyone you follow. Perhaps you enjoy the curated content they share on Pinterest and their personal insights on Instagram Stories, or you like to read about their skills on LinkedIn and ask them questions on Facebook. No blogger would ever expect you to follow them on every platform, and you’re just adding to the noise on your feeds by doing so.

FIND WHAT YOU ENJOY MOST

With way too much subconscious pressure being put on entrepreneurs to be hitting high income goals and increasing their visibility, I speak to so many people who just feel like they don’t get to be themselves anymore and have lost the enjoyment. Never, ever feel like you have to follow any trends or that anyone is forcing you to go live/build an email list. Do whatever it takes to bring back or keep your passion for the business you started exactly for that reason. If you love creating products for people, then there’s nothing wrong with making a little cash from it, but if you just love writing about your day-to-day adventures, I promise you don’t have to do anything else. But if you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t make yourself read/watch anything about a direction you don’t wish to head in (even if it is from your favourite blogger/influencer – you honestly don’t have to read everything)!

CHANGE YOUR METHODS

If you’re all about digital, why not switch it up to good old-fashioned pen + paper? If you usually write everything down, why not try a tool that will make your processes so much simpler? Refreshing your methods can make things more fun and interesting, taking away any overwhelm.

DO THE OPPOSITE

If you’re feeling under pressure to do the same as everyone else, then stop, think and do the opposite. If you think you’re feeling overwhelmed, imagine the person who sees your opt-in of the same thing everyone else has already shared. They’re going to feel more overwhelmed and probably more under pressure to create something similar for their own business. But that’s no good, it’s not unique and it’s not exciting. Whatever doing the opposite means to you, you’re more likely to stand out, stop adding noise to the crowd and release the pressure on yourself.

Avoiding overwhelm is about two things –

– Bringing back the enjoyment into what you’re doing

– Creating systems and organization that works for you

Once you’ve found these, you’ve just got to remember to re-evaluate them every time things get a little too much. As entrepreneurs, we need to remember why we started and embrace the way we’re headed, but without compromising our own beliefs and goals along the way. We don’t have to follow anybody else to get to where we want to, we have our own learning journeys ahead of us.
